Background

Named for Elizabeth Manley, the Ottawa-raised figure skater who won Olympic silver in ladies' singles at the 1988 Calgary Games. The naming is confirmed by a 2011 news report of Manley visiting 'her namesake park' in person -- a fitting namesake for a neighbourhood rink.

Boards and lights go up for the season here, so there's room for a game after dark, with a separate puddle rink alongside for skaters who'd rather stay out of the shuffle. A community crew keeps the ice going and someone's on hand while it's open, but with the fieldhouse closed there's nowhere to warm up, change, or find a washroom — lace up at home and dress for the whole visit outdoors.
